Indianola is a thriving community located 14 miles south of Downtown Des Moines. It is known for its relaxed atmosphere, diverse local offerings and proximity to all the amenities of Des Moines. CULTURE

Indianola is home to the annual National Balloon Classic – a nine-day hot-air balloon festival held every summer. It also hosts the National Balloon Museum, the Des Moines Metro Opera and popular Summerset Winery. 

Residents also enjoy 14 parks – encompassing 255 acres of green space, recreation trails and an aquatic center. For camping and boating, Lake Ahquabi is just six miles away.


Education

Indianola is largely served by the Indianola Community School District. There are four elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. Indianola is also home to Simpson College – a private, four-year, liberal arts college.
